The Angels Return

Heaven's Fury is back and is better than ever.

League of Angels - Heaven's Fury is the fourth installment in the League of Angels franchise, a series of browser-based classic style MMORPGs. After a series of beta tests, the game officially launched on GTArcade in early 2020. Heaven's Fury not only brings the latest roster of new Angels, but it also tacks on several key improvements to its gameplay, aesthetics and content. As usual for the series, new players start of by picking a class, before embarking on a story of salvation, where in this fantasy world, Zeus is corrupted and the only way to stop his minion Nidhogg is to close Pandora's Box forever.

Gameplay: What's Changed?

Fourth time is the charm right? In League of Angels - Heaven's Fury, that appears to be the case as the game has returned with plenty of improvements in its gameplay and content. Firstly, the combat system has been overhauled, now utilizing real-time ARPG elements and less skills, which is a big departure from the turn-based party combat of LoA III. Not only is it more dynamic, it also feels fun and looks good. In the content department, several aspects are retained for better or worse, like the game's linear PvE story-line quests and auto-pathing and combat to achieve those goals. Where it deviates however, is the inclusion of much more options in PvE unlike previous versions. Heaven's Fury includes server time events which has missions like escort and combat quests for quick XP and upgrade materials, in addition to more solo dungeons for XP farms, and a few varieties of PvP arenas. This is a huge upgrade from League of Angels III.

Having said that, there are elements of the game that players might not like which has also remained from the previous generation. These include the overzealous promotion of cash shop items like VIP Status and other benefits that does give advantages if you care about the PvP portion of the game. Ultimately, your experience in League of Angels - Heaven's Fury will boil down to which content you're drawn to the most, and PvE is arguably the most popular.

Diversifying Progression

Don't ignore gear and title improvements, they all add to the Battle Rating.

One of the most recognizable elements of the League of Angels franchise is the Angels feature, which allows you to collect and grow combat companions. In Heaven's Fury, Angels do make a return and there are many more choices to play with. How you upgrade them hasn't changed either. You'll still need plenty of currency and materials to upgrade their score, which helps you in the long run. Another feature that players will like is the pet or spirit system. Now, you have combat pets that aid you in battle, and they are highly customize-able as well.

As usual, the franchise relies on the Battle Rating system to mark how strong a player is, besides character level. Battle Rating is the total number of points a player has based on all the equipped gear, relics, Angels, mounts and more. Leveling up and upgrading all your systems is a sure-fire and quick way to improve your BR, but in Heaven's Fury, more options are available. For social players, joining Alliance battles and missions offers plenty of upgrade materials, and server events are another good way to surge ahead as well. Overall, League of Angels - Heaven's Fury covers plenty of basses that doesn't limit the player to only do the hardcore grinding to get better.

How Does It Look

It's only natural to expect MMORPGs to improve its graphics as time and technology advances, and in this case, Heaven's Fury does not disappoint. The game looks good and is a definite improvement over League of Angels III. The environment looks crisp and clear, while combat animations and skills look enchanting. Fair warning though: it gets messy when you're surrounded by other players in a populated questing area and everyone's skills are going off all at once. The most improved aspect aesthetically however is the games user interface. The UI is so much more streamlined, removing the clutter that was a disaster in the previous game.

Conclusion

If you've never played a League of Angels MMORPG before, Heaven's Fury is the perfect place to start for new players. Not only does it offer the best foot forward among all the other iterations, it's also the most modern of the lot and it shows. With better graphics, gameplay and content, the game is easily accessible both on browsers and via the desktop app, and it's a relaxed and fun gaming experience. For long time League of Angel players, this iteration offers the most diverse of content with varying challenges on top of new features that will be sure to please many.
